'Rush' character has a commercial touch: Emraan Hashmi

Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi will be seen in the role of a crime reporter in his next film "Rush". The actor said an attempt had been made to keep the character real but some level of suspense had been added to make it more entertaining.

"We have tried to make the character as genuine as possible, but have added a commercial touch to the story as well. We have shown an authentic world about TRPs and breaking news and have added murder and suspense around it to make it more interesting," Hashmi said at a promotional event of the film held here Monday evening.

Directed by the late Shamin Desai, the film also features Aditya Pancholi, Neha Dhupia and Sagarika Ghatge in major roles.

Hashmi clarified that his character is not based on any one crime reporter. It is a mix of many but is completely fictional in nature.

"There are a lot of journalists and news anchors who come to mind when you read the script. But it is a combination of many and it is a completely fictional world," he said.

The actor said that after shooting this film, he has developed a new found respect for journalists.

"There is no media bashing in the film. After my research, I have new found respect for journalists. They have to abide by deadlines and have a moral and ethical code. It is a very courageous job," he said.

Talking about the various roles which he has done so far, he said that he always plays characters which people can relate to.

"My characters always do wrong things and then there is redemption. This is why people can relate to them. This has become mypersonaon screen. I find this fascinating," he said.

The movie is all set to hit the screens Oct 24.

No black magic for Emraan

Actor Emraan Hashmi's recent release "Raaz 3" showcased the use of black magic, but the actor says he would never use it in his own life.

"I will work hard, but I will never go for black magic. I have taken many shortcuts in life, but I have never done this. I think black magic is great in terms of the film. In life, I know many people do black magic, but I don't know how good it is," said Emraan.

His recent films "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai", "Murder 2", "The Dirty Picture", "Jannat 2" and "Shanghai" received a fairly good response at the box office, and his latest movie "Raaz 3" too got a good opening.

Salman Khan praises Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi, who is riding high on the success of "Raaz 3", is the most underrated actor of the present generation, says Bollywood star Salman Khan.

Emraan's box office success ratio was recently compared to Salman's, as he has earned a thumbs up with most of his recent films, including "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai", "Murder 2", "The Dirty Picture", "Jannat 2", "Shanghai" and most recently, "Raaz 3".

"Emraan Hashmi is the most underrated actor and now he should get his due. He has given hit after hit. He is damn good as an actor. I really like him," Salman said during the music launch of "Ishkq In Paris".

Salman, who launched the film's music, was at his wittiest and bullied everyone on stage, including actress-producer Preity Zinta, actor Rhehan Malliek and director Prem Raj.

Salman shot a special song titled "Kudiye di kurti" for the film with Preity, and the actress says she was stunned to see his professionalism.

"I have worked with Salman Khan in tons of films, but when he came on sets, he asked the choreographer to show the steps. Then he said 'Let's go for a take', and he did it perfectly on the first take itself," she said.

"He is super professional. I thought we will take four to five takes, but we finished in just two takes," added Preity, who has turned producer with the movie.

"Ishkq In Paris", releasing Nov 2, is a romantic comedy.

Gained nine to 10 kg for 'Shanghai': Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi, who will be seen as a porn filmmaker in Dibakar Banerjee's upcoming political thriller "Shanghai", Sunday said he had gained nine to 10 kg for the role.

This film is all set to release June 8.

Hashmi said he plays the role of a porn filmmaker called Joginder Parmar.

"I play the role of Joginder Parmar. He is a very rooted and real character. He is extremely interesting and you would all love him. It is very different from what I played in 'Kalyug'," he said at the music launch here.

Hashmi's look is very different in the movie.

"There were a lot of look tests after the character sketch was given. Eventually this one emerged. I had to put on weight for this character. I had to go two shades darker. In the morning, we used to prepare for this, before the shoot."

"I had to even work on my teeth and put things on it to get the look. I dont know how many actors would want to look grotesque on screen. When Dibankar told me, he thought I would say no, but I didn't. I think its a great opportunity," he added.

"I gained nine-10 kilos. I had to start changing my diet and eat only fast food and pasta on the set."

The cast includes Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin and Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.

Talking about the film, Hashmi said: "Its a very normal film. Its relevant and the story is very interesting. I am sure this film will be a landmark film for us. Its an interesting film. We have maintained a commercial outlook with the music of this film."

After back to back hits like "Jannat 2" and "Murder 2", Hashmi seems to be one of the biggest stars of Bollywood today.

Asked whom he wants to dedicate this success to, he said: "I have always said that when a film does well, its because of the team. The entire team contributes to it. It is a synergy of talent. Even if 'Shanghai' works, its a team effort. A lot of work goes into a film and its a lot of departments who work together."
