At Yash Chopra's chautha on Thursday evening, Bollywood showed up in full strength. Among those who paid tributes to him were Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher and Karan Johar.
Karan moved all to tears by saying, "Yashji would call me up everyday, just to tell me that he loves me. I still scroll down my contacts to see his name stored. I hope to get a call from that number!" SRK recalled Yashji's phone calls. "He would make abrupt calls and say, 'Main Yash bol raha hoon, tumko milna hai, aa jao'. He would hang up even before you could reply. His death was as abrupt as his phone call. Parathas (that he loved so much) would never be as tasty, women never as gorgeous in chiffon saris, post his death," SRK said.
Anupam Kher recalled Yashji's fondness for food and his bad singing skills. "He would sing any song like a bhajan, but would love singing. We ate together almost thrice a week. We had a common liking for food," Anupam said.
Amitabh Bachchan narrated a few lines from his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan's poetry — "Jo beet gayi so baat gayi... Jo chhoot gaye, phir kahan miley." Bachchan said Yashji would never get angry. "He never raised his voice," he said.
A wheelchair-bound Shashi Kapoor also attended the function along with late Shammi Kapoor's wife Neela Devi and Prem Chopra.
